(TORONTO, ON / FEBRUARY 2, 2012) One of Canada’s best known motorcycle racers and journalists has come home, as former road race champion Andrew Trevitt has joined the roster of Inside Motorcycles magazine.

The British Columbia resident will contribute a regular feature to the magazine and produce a bi-weekly blog for its website, www.insidemotorcycles.com. He will also continue to work freelance as a senior editor for Los Angeles-based Sport Rider magazine, where he has worked since 1999. Trevitt’s first contribution to Inside Motorcycles will appear in the February/March, 2012 issue, which is due to hit newsstands imminently.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Andrew back to Canada and to the Inside Motorcycles team,” stated Inside Motorcycles managing editor Graeme Jones. “I’ve been a fan of his writing for many years.

“Having his presence in our stable strengthens an already impressive line up of writers that includes Andrew’s old racing buddy John Sharrard.”

A native of Ottawa, Trevitt started racing at Shannonville Motorsport Park in 1982 and claimed several RACE regional championships at the track, including the 1992 Formula RACE feature title aboard Yamaha TZ250s. He also enjoyed a handful of top 10 finishes in AMA 250GP competition.

In 1996 Trevitt switched to four-stroke machinery and competed aboard his own Honda CBR900RR. The following year he rode for Suzuki Canada in the national series, racing in both the Superbike and Sport Bike divisions.

Following his racing career he moved to Los Angeles to work for Sport Rider, first as an associate editor and then senior editor.

“I am happy to be back in Canada and working with my friends in the industry here,” Trevitt said. “My time in the United States was very educational, and I’m looking forward to sharing some of that experience with the readers of Inside Motorcycles. I am honoured to be able to contribute to the magazine, and grateful to the staff of both Sport Rider and Inside Motorcycles for being so supportive of my work.”

Now in its 14th year of publication, Inside Motorcycles covers motorcycling with a Canadian focus. The magazine features new model tests, product reviews, industry news, opinion pieces and coverage of all types of motorcycle racing. More information is available at www.insidemotorcycles.com.

TORONTO, ON (December 9, 2011) – Frontline CSBK Inc., organizer of Canada’s National motorcycle road racing series, is excited to announce that Chrysler Canada’s Mopar® brand is the new title sponsor of the 2012 Canadian Superbike Championship.

“We are thrilled to sponsor the exciting 2012 Mopar Canadian Superbike road race series,” said Jim Kiritsis, Head of Service and Parts, Chrysler Canada. “Our shared passion for performance and dedication to the series provides a great opportunity for the Mopar brand to connect with the fans involved.”

As well as introducing the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship title, logo and branding, today’s event also included the announcement of the 2012 race schedule for the newly named National motorcycle road racing series.

CSBK’s Kevin Graham announces the 2012 schedule, stating “We’re really proud to offer a solid slate of events at popular venues that our competitors support and our spectators enjoy. We are looking forward to a strong 2012 season and it wouldn’t be possible without the valued support of our sponsors, partners, venues, staff and teams.”

2012 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship Schedule

Round 1 June 23-24 Shannonville Motorsport Park, ON.
Round 2 July 7 – 8 Autodrome St. Eustache, QC.
Round 3 July 21-22 Atlantic Motorsport park, N.S.
Round 4 August 11-12 Circuit Mont-Tremblant, QC.
Rounds 5/6 August 25-26 Mosport International Raceway, ON.

The Canadian Superbike Championship’s history stretches all the way back to 1980, when Mississauga’s George Morin earned the inaugural National crown thanks to an early season win at the long departed Edmonton International Speedway. Last year, Saskatoon’s Brett McCormick celebrated his 20th birthday with a Championship-clinching win at the penultimate round of the Championship at Mosport International on Saturday.

For the past decade, the Mosport doubleheader has served as a showcase event for the series, with two National rounds per year at the popular venue. In 2012, the title battle in all the National classes will again be settled with two days of doubleheader race action at the legendary facility.

The 2012 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship will include classes for the Feature Pro Superbike class, as well as Pro Sport Bike, Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup, Amateur Superbike, Amateur Sport Bike and the brand new Honda CBR250R National Challenge series.

TORONTO, ON (December 6, 2011) – The Canadian Superbike Championship will return to Circuit Mont-Tremblant in the Laurentian Mountains in Quebec next summer, with a National motorcycle roadracing event at the famed venue August 10-12. This event at “Le Circuit” marks the return to Mont-Tremblant for the National motorcycle tour, after a layoff of five years.

“We’re very excited about the 2012 return to Mont-Tremblant,” explains CSBK’s Kevin Graham. “It’s a premier venue that all competitors, sponsors and crew really enjoy. The CSBK team and its loyal partners continue to strive towards the betterment of national roadracing in Canada. We have a very large and loyal following in Quebec and it is great offer another event at such a prestigious venue.”

Mont-Tremblant has hosted Formula One grand prix events in the past, as well as IndyCar rounds. The hilly layout is one of the most scenic and challenging in North America, often compared to California’s legendary Laguna Seca.

“It will be great to have the big bike series back at Mont-Tremblant,” confirmed track manager Vincent Loughran. “Our 15 turn, 2.65 mile/4.275 km layout is an outstanding test of both bike and rider, and we’ve hosted some great motorcycle events over our long history at Le Circuit. We also are planning a full week of bike activities leading up to the National weekend.”

The first-ever superbike National round took place at the recently refurbished Mont-Tremblant in 2003, when rain created a dramatic race eventually won by famous American road race star Tom Kipp on a factory Kawasaki Canada entry.

The 2004 race went to the Fast Co. Honda of Jordan Szoke of Brantford, ON. following a famous battle with Suzuki mounted fellow-legend Steve Crevier of Pitt Meadows, B.C. Both are expected to compete at the upcoming 2012 round in August.

The most recent events, in 2006 and 2007, were both won by Szoke aboard the works Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja, making “Jordan of the Jungle,” three-for-four at “Le Circuit”, riding a win streak and now a pre-season favourite for another victory just south of the ski slopes.

Further details surrounding the 2012 Canadian National Superbike Championship will presented at the Toronto

Motorcycle Show at the Metro Convention Centre, next weekend, December 9-11.

CSBK PLANS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD

TORONTO, ON (November 4, 2011) – Planning for next year’s 2012 Canadian Superbike Championship is well underway, according to series organizers Frontline CSBK. Central sponsors including BMW Motorrad Canada, Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada, Honda Canada and Mopar have confirmed their intention to continue supporting the National Series; a season schedule is currently under development and will be announced at the Toronto Motorcycle show opening on December 9th.

In 2011, the series concluded with a double header event at Mosport and the success of that weekend has convinced Graham to stick with the new calendar fixture. “Everything involving the series structure is well under way,” explains series Principal Kevin Graham of Frontline CSBK. “CSBK had a strong season of racing action in all classes in 2011, and we plan to build on that success for 2012. Mosport was bigger than ever, and we plan to build on that success in 2012,” continues Graham. “We’ll conclude the 2012 series at the end of August at Mosport.”

Pro Superbike will remain the feature class in the National series, with the newly developed Amateur version of Superbike returning for a second straight year of 1000cc action. Pro and Amateur Sport Bike will continue to cater to the middleweight production class racers.

Last year, the Harley-Davidson XR1200 series made a strong debut on the CSBK tour. That class for the popular flat-track styled street-based “spec” machines will continue unchanged in 2012. The “XR class” is also a hit in the U.K. as well as the U.S.A., and plans call for some co-operative efforts involving American competitors next year. Canadian racers attended an XR1200 class event in support of MotoGP in Indianapolis, IN at the famed Speedway last August.

Honda Canada will run a new “spec”, street-bike based class in 2012, building on the four year success of the Honda CBR125R Challenge series. The CBR250R street bike will be the platform for the revamped Honda CBR Challenge class, with young racers riding near stock machines in a display of riding, rather than tuning ability. The current CBR125R Challenge champion, 14 year old Stacey Nesbitt from Quebec, is expected to run the number one plate in next seasons CBR Challenge series.

2012 will mark the seventh season of Pirelli tire support on the national tour, with the famed Italian brand supplying a variety of rubber for all the Canadian racing categories. Pirelli also provides tires for the World Superbike series classes, as well as supporting a range of other National series, including the premier British SBK tour.

CSBK Thanks Canadian Kawasaki for Three Decades of Successful Racing

TORONTO, ON (September 22, 2011) – Frontline CSBK Inc., Canada’s premier road racing series organizer of the Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada would like take this opportunity to thank Kawasaki for their long-time support.

Canadian Kawasaki has announced a significant reduction in their participation in the Canadian National Championship road racing tour.

“Kawasaki has always been a cornerstone of our series here in Canada,” explained Frontline principal Kevin Graham, a one-time Kawasaki-equipped National Pro racer. “They not only won on a regular basis, but they have helped form and build our series. We really appreciate their participation, guidance, enthusiasm, and look forward to their involvement in the future.”

The first National series for street-based Superbike machinery in Canada took place in 1980, and after events in Edmonton, AB. and Shannonville, ON. George Morin took the inaugural crown aboard a modified air-cooled, twin shock, four cylinder Kawasaki KZ1000 Mk II.

Since then, Rueben McMurter, Steve Crevier, Michael Taylor, Don Munroe, Francis Martin and Jordan Szoke have scored Superbike National Championships for Canadian Kawasaki. No manufacturer has achieved as much success on the Canadian National roadracing scene as Kawasaki.

Canada’s most successful Professional level Superbike competitor, Jordan Szoke of Brantford, ON., has earned five of his record seven career Superbike crowns aboard Kawasaki motorcycles. Szoke won his first overall National number one plate aboard a Kawasaki ZX-7RR in 1998. From 2006 through 2009, Szoke won four straight Superbike titles (another record) with the ZX-10R Ninja.

The most recent Canadian Superbike race took place at Mosport International Raceway, ON., on August 21, the final round of the 2011 Championship. Szoke, riding the Competition Systems built 1000cc Ninja prepared by Mike Crompton, Richard Winter and Harald Surian, scored the win in streaming wet conditions.

SZOKE STOPS McCORMICK STREAK

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (August 21) – Brett McCormick’s bid for a perfect season in the Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada fell just short in a wet final round at Mosport International Raceway on Sunday.

In one of the wildest Superbike races seen in many years Brantford, Ont.’s Jordan Szoke scored his first victory of the season on the Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team Kawasaki ZX-10R while a day after clinching his first national Superbike crown McCormick crashed his radX / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR on the final lap.

Matt McBride of Mississauga, Ont. scored a career high second place finish on his Riders Choice / BMW Toronto Motorrad BMW S1000RR, 15.587 secs. behind Szoke, and Sherbrooke, Que.’s Francis Martin completed the podium aboard the Couturier Racing / ProPulsion BMW S1000RR.

“This is one of the greatest wins of my career,” said Szoke, who saw his five-year reign as Canadian Superbike champion end on Saturday. “It’s tough seeing your number one plate taken away, especially after having it for so long but this will make the winter a little easier.”

Szoke completed the 14 lap race around the 3.957km track in 23 minutes, 00.955 seconds for an average speed of 144.417km/h.

Szoke had taken the lead from McCormick’s radX / BMW Motorrad Canada teammate Michael Ferreira on lap five with McCormick moving into second a lap later. The Saskatoon rider made his move into the lead in turn one on the final lap, only to crash moments later.

“I didn’t think he would try going into turn one,” Szoke admitted after his 10th career Mosport Superbike win. “After that I looked back and didn’t see anybody else and told myself to just take things easy and not make any mistakes.”

McCormick said he thought it was the right time to make his move.

“It was my first moment the whole race,” explained McCormick, who had won all six races this season heading into Sunday’s finale. “I got to the apex and the back end came around on me.”

McBride was only 10th after the opening lap but took advantage of drama ahead of him and growing confidence in the wet conditions to move up the order. He passed Martin exiting turn three on the final lap.

“The first few laps the bike wasn’t feeling that great but then as it dried a little the bike felt better and I started making my moves,” McBride said.

Martin completed the podium in his final national Superbike appearance. The two-time Canadian champion had announced his retirement on Sunday morning.

“This is a good way to finish; I’m very happy to finish on the box,” said Martin, who was national champion in 1999 and 2005. “Lap after lap I was more comfortable, but when Matt passed me I tried to follow and almost crashed.”

Andrew Nelson of Kars, Ont. finished fourth on the Nelson Racing / GymMax / Monette Sports BMW S1000RR and wrapped up third spot in the final Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada standings.

Mississauga, Ont.’s Ferreira fell in turn five on lap 13 while lying third but remounted to salvage fifth.

The radX / BMW Motorrad Canada squad was named Inside Motorcycles Team of the Year for its championship season.

In other action at Mosport, Alex Welsh of Uxbridge, Ont. completed a sweep of the weekend’s Pirelli Pro Sport Bike races on his Z1 CycleTech / Kenwood Suzuki GSX-R600 but Jodi Christie clinched the title with a second place finish on the Jodi Christie Racing / Cameron Cycle / Blue Streak Racing Honda CBR600RR.

Woodbridge, Ont.’s Frank Trombino placed third on the Suzuki Canada / Hindle / Sturgess Cycle Suzuki GSX-R600 to secure third in the final point standings.

Bodhi Edie of Warman, Sask. finished fourth on his Edie Racing / Acceleration Racing / Honda Canada Honda CBR600RR and was named Pro Rookie of the Year.

Stacey Nesbitt made international racing history by becoming the first woman to clinch a national road racing title as she locked up the Honda CBR125R Challenge at Mosport on Sunday.

The St-Lazare, Que. rider edged Richmond, Ont.’s Eric Green by just 0.178 secs. for her fourth straight win while Scott Lingelbach of Wellesley, Ont. took third.

A day after wrapping up the Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup championship Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Steve Crevier won the season finale. Riding the MotoSport Plus of Kingston entry, Crevier edged Boca Raton, Fla.’s Michael Barnes by 0.202 secs. with Barnes’ Ruthless Racing / Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada teammate Darren James of North Vancouver right behind in third.

Crevier won the Performance Under Gear Performer of the Race Award for his effort on Sunday.

Kristopher Garvie of Caleon, Ont. clinched the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike title with a fourth place finish in Sunday’s first of two races on his Tracksport Technologies / Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Both races were won by Magog, Que.’s Samuel Proulx on the Sherbrooke Harley-Davidson Suzuki GSX-R600. Aubrey Bailey of Parry Sound, Ont. took second each time on his HT Motorsports / ProStar / Velocity Yamaha YZF-R6 and Thornton, Ont.’s Amzy Nawaz was third in both races aboard the Velocity Sportsgear Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Jody Greening of Burlington, Ont. rode a cautious race to seventh to clinch the K&N Performance Filters Amateur Superbike title on his BFE / ProStar / Strugess Cycle Honda CBR600RR.

Toronto’s Edward Rudkowski took the race win from Blaine Groves of Dumas, Ont. and Rouyn-Noranda, Que.’s Alain Lefebvre. All three rode Suzuki GSX-R600s.

Coverage of this weekend’s racing will be shown later this year on radX HD as part of its Monday night block of motorcycle racing programming, ‘Parts Canada Motorcycle Mania’. The first show premiers on Nov. 7.

PARTS CANADA TO SPONSOR radX ‘MOTORCYCLE MANIA’

TORONTO, Ont. (August 21) – Canadian Superbike Championship title sponsor Parts Canada has also been confirmed as sponsor of ‘Motorcycle Mania’ on the High Definition radX television network this fall.

‘Parts Canada Motorcycle Mania’ will be a block of two and a half hours of programming that will include half hour, flag-to-flag coverage of the Parts Canada Pro Superbike, Pirelli Pro Sport Bike and Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup national classes. The programming will also feature the second season of the one-hour documentary series Unlimited Superbike, which follows the radX / BMW Motorrad Canada factory Superbike team of Brett McCormick and Michael Ferreira on the national tour.

The national class race coverage will be highlighted by the first use of 3D technology.

“We are excited to extend our support of Canadian motorcycle racing by putting our name on this television package,” said James Danyluk of Parts Canada. “The introduction of 3D takes motorcycle racing coverage to a new level, while the Ultimate Superbike series gives race fans a fascinating behind the scenes look at the operation of a modern race team.”

The coverage of the Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada is a joint effort between Professional Motorsports Productions and Whistlestop Productions. Professional Motorsports Productions has handled TV coverage of the Canadian Superbike Championship since 1994. Whistlestop Productions has been the creator of numerous motorsports related programs over the past 22 years.

“Parts Canada has been the title sponsor of our national series since 2000 and it is great to have them partner with us on this TV venture,” said Colin Fraser of Professional Motorsports Productions. “With two and a half hours of dedicated motorcycle racing programming, no enthusiast will want to miss ‘Parts Canada Motorcycle Mania’ on radX this fall.”

‘Parts Canada Motorcycle Mania’ debuts on radX on Monday, November 7 with action from the first round of the Canadian Superbike Championship at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Que.

“The use of 3D in our coverage of the Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada represents a real breakthrough for motorsports coverage on television,” said David Hatch, who along with his partner Stacey Hatch are executive producers at Whistlestop Productions. “We think it’s fitting that Parts Canada join us as a partner in our television coverage of Canada’s national racing series.”

Parts Canada is this country’s largest distributor of aftermarket parts and accessories for the powersports industry. With distribution centres in Calgary and London, Ont., Parts Canada has the ability to quickly and efficiently deliver parts to its valued dealers across the country.

radX is owned and operated by High Fidelity HDTV™, Canada’s leading HD broadcaster. With its suite of High Definition channels, Oasis HD™, Treasure HD™, eqhd™, and radX™, High Fidelity HDTV provides Canadians with some of the best non-fiction programming from around the world.

McCORMICK CLINCHES SUPERBIKE TITLE

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (August 20) – Brett McCormick celebrated his 20th birthday in style by clinching his first Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada title with a dramatic victory at Mosport International Raceway on Saturday.

The radX / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR rider passed the Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team Kawasaki ZX-10R of Jordan Szoke in the last turn and held on for a 0.053-sec. victory.

The win was the sixth of the season for the Saskatoon rider and put him in an uncatchable position in the Canadian Superbike Championship standings with just Sunday’s season finale left to run. He now has 328 points to the 266 of Szoke with a maximum of 52 points available on Sunday.

“I’m a bit speechless right now,” McCormick said. “It’s been an amazing season with an amazing team. I’m shaking; it’s a bizarre feeling.”

McCormick completed the 20 laps around the 3.957km track in 27 minutes, 24.935 seconds for an average speed of 173.201km/h.

Szoke grabbed the holeshot and by the end of the opening lap he and McCormick had pulled clear of the rest of the field. The five-time defending Superbike champion led 17 laps despite occasional challenges from McCormick, who led laps 11-12.

Szoke led as two leaders headed into the turn 10 right hander, the final corner before the finish line. McCormick made a dive to the inside and snuck ahead. Szoke tried to power back in front but couldn’t quite make it.

“It was a super-fun race and it’s great to battle for the championship like that,” McCormick said. “His bike had a little bit more motor than mine but I was a bit quicker through the corners and that made for a great race.”

Szoke said his bike ran just short of fuel as he and McCormick raced through the final few corners.

“It’s just one of those things,” he admitted. “Brett ran wide out of turn eight and I tried to get inside him and I just had no power. But no excuses. Brett deserves the number one plate; he’s a great talent. I’m glad I was able to give him a battle today.”

While McCormick has clinched the Canadian Superbike title he goes into Sunday’s final round with a chance to complete a perfect season, something only done once previously, by Szoke last season.

In another tremendous battle Andrew Nelson came out on top of a four-rider scrap for the final podium spot. The rider of the Nelson Racing / GymMax / Monette Sports BMW S1000RR made up for a horrible start that saw him complete the opening lap in seventh spot to snatch third from Michael Ferreira by just 0.380 secs.

“It was a good battle with Mike,” said the Kars, Ont. rider, who also gained sole position of third place in the Canadian Superbike point standings. “I think I saved just enough rear tire to get good drives down the backstraight at the end.”

Mississauga, Ont.’s Ferreira settled for fourth on the radX / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR while Jodi Christie of Keene, Ont. was a close fifth on his Jodi Christie Racing / Cameron Cycle / Blue Streak Racing Honda CBR1000RR, which put him alone in fifth spot in the series standings.

Matt McBride of Mississauga, Ont. was at the back of this group on his Riders Choice / BMW Toronto Motorrad BMW S1000RR.

Uxbridge, Ont.’s Alex Welsh was also part of the third place battle after making an impressive charge from 13th on the grid to sit third by lap three. But he crashed his Z1 CycleTech / Kenwood Suzuki GSX-R1000 in turn five on lap nine.

In other racing at Mosport Welsh stayed in the hunt for the Pirelli Pro Sport Bike title by taking his second win of the season aboard his Suzuki GSX-R600. Welsh finished just 0.070 secs. ahead of championship leader Christie on a Honda CBR600RR.

Christie takes a 17-point lead over Welsh into Sunday’s final race of the season.

Bodhi Edie of Warman, Sask. finished third on Saturday on his Edie Racing / Acceleration Racing / Honda Canada Honda CBR600RR.

A fourth place finish was enough to give Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Steve Crevier the Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup title. The rider of the MotoSport Plus of Kingston-based entry has an unassailable 68-point lead over Cochrane, Alta.’s Cody Matechuk, who finished seventh on Saturday on his Privateers Harley-Davidson XR1200.

Michael Barnes of Boca Raton, Fla. led a Ruthless Racing / Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada sweep of the podium, edging Calgary’s John Ross MacRae by 0.350 secs. with North Vancouver rider Darren James just another three-tenths of a second back.

Burlington, Ont.’s Jody Greening moved a step closer to locking up the K&N Performance Filters Amateur Superbike title with a third place finish in Saturday’s race on his BFE / ProStar / Sturgess Cycle Yamaha YZF-R1.

Gatineau, Que.’s Tim Robinson won the race on his Robinson Racing / Belko Auto Body BMW S1000RR while pole qualifier Aubrey Bailey was second riding the HT Motorsports / ProStar / Velocity Sportsgear Honda CBR1000RR.

Stacey Nesbitt opened up a solid 29-point lead in the Honda CBR125R Challenge by scoring her third straight victory while nearest rival Austin Shaw-O’Leary of Falmouth, N.S. finished fifth.

The St-Lazare, Que. racer finished just 0.704 secs. clear of Kemptville, Ont.’s Leah Vignale with Eric Green of Richmond, Ont. a close third.

Schedule delays meant the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike class was unable to complete its race. That event will instead be run on Sunday morning. Kristopher Garvie of Caledon, Ont. leads the point standings on his Tracksport Technologies / Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Racing in all six national classes concludes on Sunday. Action begins with practice at 9:00 a.m.
