CSBK RD4: Jordan Szoke Race Report
Szoke Remains Second in the Canadian Superbike Championship
Brantford ON Canada – July 12th 2011 – 5 time defending Canadian Superbike champion Jordan Szoke had to settle for a disappointing runner up finish this weekend in the Canadian Superbike Championship held at the Autodrome in St Eustache Quebec. The “Autodrome” was resurrected to the CSBK schedule from a hiatus since 2003 with a freshly paved 1.77 km road course.
Szoke qualified on pole position Saturday afternoon with a 45.085 lap time aboard his Competition Systems Kawasaki ZX10 with an average speed of 141.333 km/hr. “I felt so comfortable out there.” says Szoke “I did a few hot laps and came in to make some changes with the crew, but when I took a look at my lap time I was thinking, Hey, that’s not half bad!” Jordan and the Competition Systems crew have been working tirelessly developing their brand new Kawasaki ZX10 for the 2011 season. “I think I left a little more out there, it’s nice to be back on top, and having the set up working well.”
Sunday’s race found Szoke pushed back into third off the start. Quickly a 2 second gap was formed, and Jordan had to make the pass into second. This pass earned him the “Kicker Kick-Ass Pass” of the race award. Steadily lap by lap Szoke was gaining a few tenths each time around, and found himself within sniffing distance of the win with only a few laps left. “I used up my tire trying to get around at the beginning of the race, once I caught up to the lead, I just had nothing left.” says Szoke.
“This was my race to win.” says a disappointed Szoke “We had the bike, we had the rider, I finally felt awesome on our new Kawasaki, but my start was poor and I just didn’t have the tire left once I made up the gap.” When asked about the rest of the season, Szoke grins and says, “We’re not finished yet, there are three rounds left and we’re going to push just as hard at each one of them. Challenging situations motivate me, so watch for us at the top of the box. We have a doubleheader at Mosport soon that I’m really looking forward to.”
Watch for Szoke furiously defending his #1 plate during Round 5 of the CSBK series Aug 5-7 at Atlantic Motorsport Park.
